For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. – Psalm 62:5-8
From Caitlin Estes
Chris often talks about what a forgetful people we are. We have to be constantly reminded of whose we are, how we’re saved, what’s good for us, and how to live out of those things.
Psalm 62 is especially helpful then, because it’s full of promises (reminders) for our most common fears:
Will God actually show up for me? How can I hear from him? For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.
Can and will God sustain me through this? He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
Does God care about me? Can I trust him with my most intimate concerns and most vulnerable hopes? Pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.
These verses are like balm for a wounded soul. Their richness of truth is worth memorizing, for our good. Because we need these reminders - through every phase of life, passing storm, and moment of decision. Let’s memorize them together and remind one another frequently.
